How long does a Counselling Programme usually last?

Both the length of the contract and the frequency of the sessions are very flexible and depend entirely upon the client's circumstances.  The two deciding factors are the nature of the issue to be explored and the depth to which the client wishes to go.

In the case of someone experiencing a crisis it may be that a single meeting will be sufficient to help them find a way to manage their current situation.  It may also be the case that for someone with a very specific predicament one intensive session is enough for them to establish an approach that will see them through.

For people wishing to explore more deep rooted issues a series of weekly sessions might be more helpful.  This could be for a period of between six weeks and six months and might occasionally continue for up to a year.

Typically each session would last for 60 minutes.  However there may be occasions when a longer period is needed to allow us to fully explore issues that have been raised or for an emotional episode to be completed before we part.

Once any period of counselling is over there is always the possibility of continuing the work at a later date.
